YPF-Seacolors?

Well they had me at the "Made in Maine" label!

At the smaller arena there was all these colorful yarns just bulging from their hanging place. Interesting colors too. I'd say kind of muted, but rich colors, but then I'm no color explaining expert.

Seacolors
Real exciting huh, brown! But I loves brown!

Seacolors
The yarns are usually solar dyed and seawater is also used in the dyeing process. Thus the brand name I'm sure.

Mine however, is in it's undyed, natural state.

How to not freak out Wednesday

Could be a new thing...or not. My WIP's are just not blogworthy this week, and as you know lately I likey to mixy thingys up a bit lately.

So here you go, an update on my 4/C Midshipman, he's doing well and looking forward to coming home in 8 weeks!! He asked if he needed to bring his uniforms home and I said why...du'oh he wants a break from laundry...aha!

My 4/C Midshipman

He was one of the Honor MUGs (Midshipmen Under Guidance) which was basically a 1 month basic training into the rules and regs of the Regiment of Midshipmen
honor mug He's the cutie to the left facing the Officers.

My SAFF pals already know this information as he called me while I was in Asheville

Son: "Hey Mom, I just got back from the Navy Sub base, toured Nuclear Subs, I think I'm gonna go for it."
Me: "Um...don't they have a height requirement...like dude aren't you too tall??? (fingers crossed)"
Son: "Good try Mom, um...nope!"
Me: "sigh"

YIKES! Ahem...not freaking out...really not (yeah right!) ...for 3 more years....dude, I'm gonna have white hair!

SAFF 08, Did she or....

Didn't she??? Read on...

It was a lot of fun! Met lots of people, walked a ton, shopped...well see below and just enjoyed myself. Had great roommates too! I even saw 2 knitbloggers I've been reading for a while and could only manage a hi. Guess I got a case of the shy mouth syndrome. Plus I missed a few other peeps...maybe next year!

The arena
The arena
The Arena
I didn't get many of the other sales area or the animals...yeah...new camera strap and all and it stayed in my bag...yeah, bad blogger! Howevah...

Friday Nite Knit in at the Holiday Inn was fun.
Ravelry Holiday Inn knit in
Our wonderful Organizer Organized by this lovely lady, there were prizes (no I didn't win) and lots of meeting and just chilling out.

The Friday nite knitting group as we normally meet, it was just another Friday to us.
The Fayetteville Crew
(L to R) Lisa, Judy (her Mom, aka Momma to us) and Jacque.

Me...well despite the planning for lots of knitting and projects (yeah I always over pack them too) I had plans...or should I say she had plans for me.

I took a spinning class and learned a bit, spun a ugly oops I mean beautious skein of yarn. The fiber was really not fun at all to spin so Shannon told me to go out shopping and find a braid of BFL, so I did. Check out her blog for lots of gorgeous handspun, hints, tips and the cutest furry pets too!

Here we are Friday nite and what a difference a fiber makes. I didn't want to throw anything...well not as much as earlier that day. Let it be known that me and the orifice hook became well acquainted ;) (hey, git yer mind outta the gutter now!)

My own personal...
Can you barely see that tiny burgundy strand...coolness!! I learned so much from her, much more than my class. I should have paid her the fee. 2 hrs and a large class makes it hard to learn a lot. Thanks again Shannon... Sorry the rest of you lot, you'll have to wait to see the results...

Sooo...did she??

The haul, not much sock yarn in there either (some are gifts) ! I was on a worsted quest and was very successful!
The haul
Sorry, no close ups or info you'll have to wait for a future YPF post. See I gotta keep ya coming back.
The Soap haul
Soap, soap, soap, and some buttons. I love handmade soaps...and after spending 2 days looking for red buttons for a certain sweater...I found them at knit picky, where Shannon and I stopped on our way home.

Oh and some of the sights you see huh!
It's a .....
Cristi honey you sure aren't afraid to get yer hood on are you? ;)

If you've been reading this far, thanks!! I appreciate it. And for those inquiring, nosy minds that want to know...did I get a wheel..

NOPE! I resisted the urge...although I was thinking evil thoughts of how I could put rocks and stuff in Shannon's wheel bag so she "thought" she brought it home...wonder if she checked yet ;) I do love the Lendrum, but want to try a few more to make sure it's the "one" for me. But that is a long way away. I just don't have the time to give it the attention it needs right now..

One day....

Friday is for Friends

Hehe I love the new scheduling feature. I am in Asheville, getting ready for my spinning class. I've vowed NOT to bring a spinning wheel home, but will do some extreme testing out. Hubby would not be too happy if I brought one home lemme tell you. He's pretty tolerant...but I need to get some stock back in JaneZ Place after I get home to pay for it. So...we'll see ;)

Onward to the friends. Knitpastis and I have known each other and participated in swaps for a few years. She's a really sweet and kind person whom I hope to meet in person one day :)

Love my new earrings
When I saw she had started to sell her pretty jewelry I went for it. I don't wear big, loud earrings anymore...I'm into more delicate stuff lately and found them for sale at daintyloop. Get your earrings, necklaces, bracelets, and stitchmarkers all in one spot :)

So don't you like the background!
Lorna's Laces
Lorna's Laces Sportweight in Argyle. My first SP yarn gift. I received it in 2006...gosh, have I been knitting socks for 2 years??? Gotta cast these on soon as well...it's perfectly aged now LOL

Have a great weekend everyone!!

Inquiring minds wanted to know....

Just how I stretched my sleeves out.

Sleeve stretchers in arms
If you look closely, you'll see my Popeye arms.

Dontch like...
What's inside are these! Custom made sleeve stretchers! You can do eet, make yer own! Ya know it wasn't until I took this picture that I realized the right one is bigger...

Ok...so..
Could be why the left sleeve is a little rumpled on the top, but verry much better fit. (ignore the bump on the lower screen ;)

The right sleeve is just as good, just no wrinklege...
Yeah...
I know these pics stink, but I promise to get a good picture out and about this weekend.... SAFF here we come!

So..I've been wanting to get rid of this ugly camera strap.
ye olde camera strap
Now you see it....ugly and all (IMHO)

Now you don't!!
Camera strap

Camera strap and key chain
Amy Butler Lotus Collection
Morning Glory Linen
Full length
I've been seeing a few of these around blogland and for sale but figured it out myself. I just ripped off the old black leather and used the webbing and plastic fixings for the new one. I cut about 4 1/2" wide fabric and since this is 100% cotton, I used decor bond (interfacing), folded in half and seamed it. Turned inside out, press then topstitch as you like. The black end thingy's are just vinyl I got at the fabric store. I didn't want to reuse the other ones and couldn't find leather, which is fine. This way if I make more, I can use different colors. The best part is you can make it as long as you want. Mine fabric portion is 32" I didn't want the camera to be sitting right square in the middle of my chest...I mean geesh, don't need any extra attention there.

Ok, off to get some laundry and packing done! I leave at 8 am...woot!! Back on Sunday with lots of picture, weather permitting..which sounds cold and rainy, but so what! It' ain't hot and humid and that's fine with me!

Chilly Weekend

Finally!! Hoping that the cold weather stays!

003
After I saw CBear's Pasta e Fagioli recipe I had to try it. Her recipe made enough for 3 meals. We'll have it again later this week and I'll give the in-laws a container. It was great, a different taste for me but very filling. A definate do again.

So, I hear this weekend will be chilly and rainy so I wanted to make sure my Tilted duster fit. It does, but the arms are a bit snug.
My arms!
See twin bath's...now to stuff the arms so my arms aren't stuffed like sausages. Mr. Lipstickjeans will not be done in time, oh well....I'll have it for next year ;)

YP & Friends Friday

Well this week I get to combine pr0n by a friend. We had been reading each other's blogs for a while, and when sKNITches was first opened, I was lucky and scored her very first Limited Edition . I still can't bring myself to knit it up yet. (Wow, 2 yrs ago) Since then I've acquired quite a few of her yarns and have allowed myself to knit with some. ;) I have a toe finished in another colorway .

Recently debuted is her new yarn base Big Tryst and her Duckies sock pattern. I love these socks and the colorway.
009
Cinnamon Teal Duck (hehe I keep calling it Duck Teal...duh)
Big Tryst-DK weight
80% Superwash Merino, 10% Cashmere, 10% Nylon
Approx. 250yds
"pond brown, pink webbed feet, teal bill" describes it well

Cinnamon Duck Teal
Very, very soft and squooshy. I bet socks in these will be so comfy.

Big Tryst
I so wished I didn't have like 4 sock pairs in progress, cause I want to knit a pair now....patience...must have patience....

Good thing I waited until after her recent update to let you know huh ;) well, not on purpose, it just turned out that way.

Socktoberfest 2007 sock
How do you like my sock in a box?? hehe When last we saw this sock, it was almost a year ago. Socktoberfest 2007...hmmm, yeah, so here we are at Socktoberfest 2008, looks like they'll get done huh. Maybe a photoshoot next weekend at SAFF. Better pictures on the FO post.

I can also haz....
I can haz sleeve

a long sleeve...really, it's long. The pattern calls for 3/4 ones, but I wanted the long one... now to knit the other one before SAFF . Don't fear everyone, I may be knitting it there along with the sock above...see you'll be able to spot me right! And help me pick out a button or 2, and maybe help me take an FO shot too!

I also can haz a pair of new shoes! Shows the knits a bit better. Still searching for "the" pair, but these will do for now.
I can haz

Off to knit, a body is calling to me....hey..no funny stuff, it's only Mr. Lipstickjeans ;)

Monday, October 13, 2008

Just another Monday..

Well, I am off and trying to get motivated to finish a sleeve! I have 1 more sleeve and the rest of the body and button band and T-9 days! Gah! Oh well, I've decided I'll get the button at SAFF anyways, so maybe a photoshoot there. :) Yeah, I know I've had 4 days off, but I was working on a sock, bad, bad, girl.

Now with computer
My newest arrival in my room the Dave laptop table. It's been sitting in the garage awaiting the day my hubby would buy himself a new laptop, well as you can see, it happened. Now all I need is refrig and microwave, and I never have to leave my room LOL!

I've also been Destashing again. Check it out and email me if you see anything (or leave a comment here) you would like. Thanks for looking! I'm sure in a couple of weeks there will be more again.

Well, off to get sleeve knitting again....later!

Friday is for Friends

Hey, something new I just started this week. Some Fridays I'll have fiber, some for friends, some I may miss LOL!

My friend Sarah just started selling these cute cards! She does the designs and prints them all by hand. We met via Knitty a few years ago when I did some sewing for her. We met again this past year via Ravelry. It's been great emailing each other, as we've both have had our oldest leaving the nest this year.

So when she started Green Clogs Designs I couldn't wait to buy some for myself. I've been watching her make these cards for various swaps she's been on and hoping she'd sell them soon.

039
She recently started and even has some in her shop. These red ones (my favorite) are a 1/2 sheet note card, I think what she calls a flat card.

036
My 2nd favorite color! These are folded note cards. BTW, I've always loved her green clogs too!
So stop on by and check them out!

Pink......

Yes, we are seeing pink everywhere, it's a color much associated with the month of October. It's National Breast Cancer Awareness Month

003
I don't need to tell you why this year it kinda hits home.

020
Not only did my own mother pass away from this disease 18 years ago...

023
My Aunt recently has been undergoing treatment this year as well.

029
I have wonderful friends and family who have supported me. Thank you all!

Please, please take care of yourselves and get your mammogram and yearly checkups. Click the link above for any questions, help, hints you need, etc. For the males that may read this, yeah, you need check ups too! Not necessarily a mammogram, but you know...any other parts ;)

Consider this your PSA for any and all health careness of yourself! Take care of you!

YPF-MMMM Version

Yahoo! I'm so happy the colder mornings are here! This is MY weather time. Despite living in the South, I do not like the weather here most of the time. Fall is my weather and what a perfect way to celebrate this fall day by showing you what is about to become a new hat for me.

Malabrigo Worsted

Destined to become a Bounce Hat by John Brinegar. Ever since I first saw this on his blog (and printed it right away :) I was trying to decide what to use. I almost wanted last weeks pr0n , but decided not to.

Perfect fall colors. This will be perfect to wear at the mountains in October!

Yum...chocolate

What makes me also excited is that I purchased this lovely skein (and it's mate) here in my hometown! Yes, folks, Malabrigo is in my hometown!! Not 1 hr away or many states away, but about 15 minutes depending on the traffic. A Row of Purls is about 45 mins. from me, but the owner has a stall set up in a local antique consignment store.

Now to get off here and cast on! I need a break from Mr. LSJ anyways. Have a great weekend!

WIP Wednesday!

I've mainly been knitting on this! I want to wear it at SAFF, along with my Tilted Duster.
Slow but sure!
I have about 3" left of stockinette, then the 3" of cable/rib pattern. I am making full length sleeves instead of 3/4 length. Then onto finishing the rest of the body, which I need about 4-5" or so. Then the other sleeve and button band.

What's this??? huh?? here??
Special Olympics Scarf
A scarf that's not lengthwise! Its for the Special Olympics Scarf Project. I'm getting my crochet on! It's going pretty good, now if I can correctly count the rows I'll be all set. I really detest knitting with this yarn but crocheting isn't so bad. The middle white section looks smaller than I thought it was...hmmm oh well. I'll probably crochet 2 of them. I think it's a good way to learn some new stitches, plus make some kids happy. Go for it, knit or crochet one yourself. Just make sure to use only the yarn and colors they request though.

Well, that's it, off to work on the sweater!
