I needed 2 size US3 x 24" bamboo circs for my cascade fixation ankle socks, the addi's are just not working and I don't want to use my dpn's I want to do more on the 2 circs so I don't forget. Well had to go to the LYS as I couldn't find any in town. So after lunch with hubby on Friday, 45 mins later was at the LYS, ended up with clover brand which is fine I just like the cords on the natura's better. A few skeins of wool came back with me with ideas for a couple of oneskein projects for my One Skein SP and...well..a few more balls of the fixation. I was in and out within 15 minutes and had to drive home within 45 mins. to pick up the kids...phew I made it!
Today spent doing some sewing, just no energy for it either, so minimal time on that. A little burst of energy produced this:
Before going into oven
Divided into 2 cakes as it'll likely become a hat or felted object due to the bajillion knots in it!
My first handpainting and oven dyeing with Wilton's icing colors on sock yarn, the one with like a bajillion knots in it. I am happy with the purple, yellow, and greens. The blue is fine, it is sky blue, but not what I want for my SP.. So I did another skein of Patons Classic Wool which is still drying but I fixed the orange to be a little duskier and the purple lighter (wanted 2 shades of purple), not so bright and still did another skein of sock yarn with green (found a knot while winding niddy (so no go to SP) and added a little black to make it deeper...it's ok, but some of the black left a few spots(used immersion). Good thing it is for me. Sooo, I am learning quite a bit on finding the colors. Hopefully tomorrow, I will get the perfect combo. I did like the handpainting, will get some bottles next time. Still a fan of immersion though!
Tomorrow, real knitting pictures...I promise! And for those who read my blog that haven't dyed and want to, well YOU CAN DO IT TOO! and get addicted like me. Keep looking, only 3 more skeins left...gotta do one perfect for my SP ya know! ;)

You hold the bar in the middle, but it takes a little trying to see exactly where, so you can wind and hold at the same time. When you're winding, you 'll move it slightly down and up - that's the niddy-noddy from the name!
What a bright skein! :)
I know what you mean about addictive dying!
Wow, you're becoming the yarn dying diva! z knits and sews and dyes and....
Those coloures remind me of childhood!
that's it! I am going to start reading everything I can about dying and give it a shot! You have inspired me. :)
Hehehe I like that what cpurl17 said, " Z knits, sews and dyes! Now you have to add onto your blog name!
I just caved a bought a niddy noddy. I put it together and...began reading the directions, lol. I think figuring out where to hold it was the hardest part! Glad to see I'm not the only color-addict dyeing up a storm. Great colors!
That looks great! I'm glad it worked out. Did you do black by itself or mixed with another color? I'm wondering if Wilton's black works well or not.
You're a lean mean dying machine! Great colors with Wiltons! I'll have to replenish my stash of Wilton's after seeing your gorgeous creations!
I wouldn't be so sure that everyone can do it :).
Bold bright colors!
PS - I've just gone thru Indianapolis. Cruising along!
Wow! All your dyeing is so pretty. I could just stare and stare at the lovely colors. I love your winder thingy, too. Looks very nice and handy.
Gosh, I adore your yarn, such amazingly cheerful colors - you're doing a great job with your dyeing! I can well imagine that it's such an addictive thing to do, perhaps that's the reason why I haven't tried it myself yet, because I know I wouldn't be able to stop! :)
Re: the niddy noddy, I discovered that having a slightly shorter center piece makes it a lot more comfortable to use. Mine's at home right now, so I'm not sure of the length, but I can make a 60" diameter skein on it.
Wait a sec - I just realized that it says Wilton's "icing" colors - so wait - icing as in frosting icing as in the stuff you get at Michaels with all the fancy cake tins and stuff? That stuff? Really? So I just bought 60 packets of Wylers for what?
And that niddy noddy gave me an idea too. Hmm...maybe a way to make self-striping sock yarn a bit more pet friendly in my condo? How long do you think that center pole could be and still be able to use it? Hmm....
So rainbow yarn eh? Beautimus - I love rainbows!
