Cabling again

Another Capitan Hat is finished.

Capitan Hat #2
Cascade Baby Alpaca Chunky
Carribean Colorway
US 10 circ and dpn's

For my MIL, but modeled by DD.
Capitan Hat #2

There was a bit more leftover from this skein. It was a gift from a Doc I taught to knit. Pretty color, but not me, so for a gift it went. I got a bit carried away on the strap and had to frog it a bit. I think the buttons are perfect too.

Hey, you know the hint of doing a reverse purl wrap after a knit stitch, you know to help keep your ribbing from spreading out. Does anyone else do this? I have to almost all the time, but what I dislike is how it seems to spread out the purl stitches so they don't look tight. I've been having this problem for a bit..some yarns it doesn't show, this one it does..well to me, and it bugs me, but not enough to frog! Any new hints would be greatly apprecitated, especially as I still have another cabled hat in progress and one more to go OTN.

I have survived month 1 of the SAM 5 Kal...whew...and the best news I got yesterday...um..my Tilted Duster bodice fits...now fingers crossed for the rest..you know when I thought my Brown Gable fit...it didn't...so I keep hoping I can change the 2 sweaters knit, 0 fit to 3 sweaters knit, 1 fits...stay tuned!

It's adorable! Waiting with bated breath for the Tilted Duster shots. I should use you as inspiration for finishing Tangled Yoke.

Very cute! Love the bright color!

Hmmm, I can offer no help on the reverse purl wrap because...er...I didn't know about the reverse purl wrap until you mentioned it.

Looks great in that color -- it really shows off the cabling. Can't help on the reverse purl -- but thanks for the tip, I have that problem too.

Love the hat! The blue is so cheerful.

I've never heard of this reverse purl wrap thing.

I'm glad you made it through the first month! You're doing a great job.

What technique is this? Anything bigger than K2P2 rib gets too spread out. I'm intrigued! :)

I get the gap between knit and purl stitches too. I found a post on Ravelry about "fibbing" and I use it anytime I can now. *Only works when "in the round" I found out the hard way* I'm not sure if it'll work with cables, I'm not that advanced. Fibbing is done by knitting all the stitches then when you get to a colum that should be purled, just drop the stitch down and pick it back up as a purl with a crochet hook. I usually knit the first 2 rows in pattern then knit the rest until 1 row before decreases. Hope this helps.

That is the best looking Si' Capitan I've seen yet! Hope you are doing well!

BTW, I have a new blog: www.dkswife.blogspot.com

My ribbing will spread out if I'm not careful because I naturally purl looser than I knit. So I make it a point to keep the knit stitches loose and the purl stitches tight, and I really pull tightly on the first pull stitch. It helps to avoid laddering as well.
