And now for some Fun....

Fur that is! (yeah I know I now call it the devil, and really hate to knit with it except under certain circumstances)

While cleaning out the 2 rooms, I found my very first knitting project that started the ball rolling in 2005. I guess my son was holding it hostage or something! FF scarves were all the rage, or at least the beginning of the rage (not sure the rage has ended either) so I cast on 22 stitches (yeah, it is emblazoned in my mind LOL!)

See red, my favorite color!

So here I go, check out knitting help to refresh my memory and off I go!

First knitting project in 2005
Hmmm..so where did I go wrong? The left side has 22 stitches...the right..probably about 40 or more. It took a while to figure out what I was doing wrong. Someone finally helped me! See I learned to M1 all on my own, didn't even plan it!

I kept thinking I was dropping a stitch when in fact I was knitting a M1. Heh..see I had to get all advanced on myself! So I finished this anyways and even wore it! I folded it down and it worked. Although, it could work as a hat, a teddy, a tube top...the possibilities are endless.

Work on the room for my daughter is finished, for me, I had to get a new tv as the ancient one was just not going to work with the new digital stuff coming up and hey, I need one in there! As for my room..um..gonna take today and tomorrow to organize....whew! I may show you sneak pictures tomorrow, but I want to change the wolf theme in there, so that'll be a while.

Thank you all for your kind words on my last post. It really helped a lot. I know I'm not alone, but I guess at the time I posted, I just felt that way. So onward to funny and neat things and hey, show me your first knitted object if you still have it, or at least tell me about it.

Stay tuned tomorrow for my 2nd knitted project..after that..um..it's all a blur!

I'll have to go digging for the first fo...a ribbed scarf. The second project, I no longer have, a baby cardi with a hood for the kid....and the hood ended up being more...elf like than I would have liked. :)

Your first knitted object looks a lot like my first crocheted object, which somehow lost stitches along the way and turned out less-than-rectangular. The opposite of the process that led to your scarf, but a similar-looking result.

My first crocheted knitted object never turned into anything. My grandmother handed me some aluminum needles and a swatch she had started with red yarn (red first object...I sense a theme here) and told me to slip the first stitch to get a more even edge. I was 5 and misunderstood what she meant. So instead of slipping the first stitch when I started a new row, I slipped a stitch every time I stopped knitting and picked it up again. Yes, my first knitted object looked a bit... peculiar. Your scarf is a masterwork by comparison!

I'd like to take a moment of silence to remember poor Elmo.

Silence over! I've been going thru flickr and unearthing pictures of some pretty hideous crap I knit when I was first starting...holy moly!

Zonda, honey, your blog and I are having serious problem - looks like every little blog shows no posts at all! And that happenes pretty often lately!
(Though I can see sidebars perfectly)!

yup, that looks like my first knitting too - ever widening. mine wasn't in fun fur though. and due to some misunderstanding, I was doing some weird knit-purl hybrid thing until I was retaught a few months later when I couldn't book-teach myself how to purl.

Ha! I think we all have one of those - mine was a blue fun fur scarf...yup. I admit it! I knit with fun fur and I'm still alive!

I love seeing first knitting projects. :-) I knit a sweater that I couldn't get my head through and arms long enough for a gorilla. LOL!

(((hugs about the last post too))) Much love and healing vibes heading your way.

My first knitting project was a felted tote, pattern from Two Old Bags. I finished it, felted it, and put it in a box. A year or so ago, I unearthed it and realized that the reason I had never used it was because the handles were off-center and wonky. So I cut them off and sewed on some twill purse handles, added a little decoration, and now it is the bag I use when I go to knitting group. I love that I was able to repurpose it; otherwise it would never have seen daylight again.

Well, lets see, my first project ended up in the trash. I was making a green sweater with set in sleeves and messed the whole thing up. I finally balled it up and threw it away. When I told me mother what I did she told me that those were the projects you save forever! I wish I still had it, I would love to compare it to the things I make now.
