Friday, The Yarn Pr0n Kind

Today's post is courtesy of Doc! Doc is a Radiologist that I taught to knit around April/May, just before she left for CA! She had been wanting to for a while, and I gave her a birthday gift of yarn and scarf needles, but after a long day on our feet and brains hurting, never got to "knit"! So one day, she had some time and I proceeded to show her casting on and garter stitch. Flash ahead to after a weekend, the scarf was as tall as her and it was time to bind off...so I showed her.

In the meantime, she had been buying yarn and cicular needles all weekend. The next project she wanted to do was a hat on circulars for her hubby in Iraq. She was looking for a blue wool yarn for him, um..so I did what any enabler would do, I gave her a skein of LP Bulky. I was amazed as most new knitters don't go directly to circs and dpns...but what the heck, I showed her how to cast on, join in the round and purl. A day later, the hat was done, so we proceeded to bind off. She found LP on ebay and I guess the rest is history..she loves LP as much as I do! So after destashing a bit of different yarns and a few needles and a new needle case, off she went to CA. The girl moved in an area with 3, count them 3 LYS's, one 10 minutes away!! Lucky her! But, being a Doc, never enough time to visit....until this week when she sent me a thank you gift of.....

The Cascade Baby Alpaca Chunky! Man this stuff is so soft!!

Cascade Baby Alpaca Chunky Ahhh!!!

Cascade Baby Alpaca Chunky
I love picture taking in the wild LOL! So, what do I do with 200 yds of this?? Any ideas?? No to a scarf already..not cold enough here for that, plus thanks to my SP6, I got a few already and I don't want to felt it..I like pawing it!

BTW, Doc is going to sign up for "SOCK" classes at her LYS too!

My DD saw me armed with camera and skeins of yarn yesterday afternoon, (I like to get a head on my yarn pics while I can before I get home and it is dark!) Oh, you going outside for your yarn pr0n mom?? It's almost Friday right?? hehe!

Thank you for your nice comments this week regarding Frogging Tuesday and Thursday! May it not be repeated for a long while!!!

Oh wow. I gotta get on board with the chunky yarn love. That stuff looks too soft. And I love the vibrant color! Way to enable a coworker and immediately instill an appreciation for good yarn!

Beautiful yarn and great shots! Good job on getting a co-worker hooked to! It is always fun to share the obsession.

Yummy yummy alpaca... how about a pair of mittens? Big, fluffy, warm, snuggly mittens...

I love that yarn... mittens? If it's not cold enough for a scarf then mittens are probably out too, but I'd love to keep that stuff near my hands.

I used to get funny looks from the dh when I'd trundle outside with an armful of yarn and a camera, but at least now he just sighs and shakes his head.

Thanks for your incredibly kind comment, by the way. :)

just chimming in with a "me too" that color is gorgeous. I'd probably keep it and take it out and pet it occasionally

Wuhahaha! The yarn porn went to my head...I thought you SON made the yarn porn/friday comment. Hmm...maybe I need to sign you as my dealer, the euphoric effects of LP seem to be messing with my mind.

Lookit that color!! How pretty is that?! It's not cold enough for wool where I live so I know what you mean about being stumped for a project. Wish I had a fabulous suggestion for you...but, sorry, I don't. Keep it where you can see it and the inspiration will come!

:)

Baby Alpaca has been my new love. At least for it's softness so far. I haven't had a chance to knit with it yet. You got a beauty there!

What a gorgeous color! I'm no good at figuring out what to do with small amount of yarn - besides petting it. I'm sure whatever you decide to do with it will be just lovely.

WOW! I would have that yarn against my face all the time - just to feel softness!

How about mittens?
It's purtiful stuff.

Beautiful yarn!

Great story and yarn porn! Cheers to creating another knitting convert! I agree that mittens would be lovely in that gorgeous yarn, but don't know if it's cold enough for you.

So sorry about your Scoop troubles, but don't lose hope, I just know you'll have a terrific finished sweater one day soon. :)

Now, how amazing is that? You recruited a new knitter, what a great deed! And isn't it awesome to see them getting so into it, not only knitting but beginning to buy the most amazing yarn? This light blue one you showed is heavenly indeed, and such fantastic pics! Yay for that!
