When you need a break from tiny needles, what do you do??
Zeebee Hat
Use size 11 needles! I had this all finished except for the garter stitch grafting. Which, call me weird, but I don't mind grafting. (no throwing of objects or words now!) It was the first time I've ever done garter stitch grafting and it was ok. Saved again by my Knitter's Companion book, the step by step photos made is super easy.
Once you measure yourself or other victim to receive hat, just plug in the numbers and print your copy of the pattern. Just remember....it tells you just how many short rows you should have, plus the CS stitch.
I used Rowan Scottish Tweed Chunky in the Lobster Colorway. Another color view here which shows it's true darker color.
109 yards and 3 sts to the inch, which I got when I swatched. (hat pattern suggests, heck you really need to swatch to do the calculations for the pattern). I used up all but about 1-2 yards. Now I did frog the swatch and then start the hat. If I hadn't I would have had to break into the second skein.
Hehe...loving the lobster colorway, wonder why? Luckily I have 1 more skein of this which will be cast on size 13 needles for a garter stitch lengthwise scarf. Stayed tuned for that and more sockage knitting!
Oh and there are a few Needle cases available FYI! ;)

Cute hat!
I like grafting, too. It's kind of fun.
That's a pretty colorway!
Ze Zeebee is Zuper!! (okay, I need to go to bed!)
Great job! :)
I like grating too, although I haven't done garter stitch grafting yet.
Cute hat!
Nice hat!
I don't mind grafting either.
Dammit! I'm knitting a hat today. That's it. The handspun one I started? Ran outta yarn. I'm waiting on Rosi with her pattern for the Bison, and I'm casting on. Tomorrow, I shall have a new hat! Love your Zeebee!
Nice hat! I like the lobster color because I like lobster! Hee!
Great hat! It is nice to take a break from the smaller needles once in awhile.
I don't mind grafting, but grafting garter stitch sounds a bit scary. The hat turned out perfect though, and isn't it funny how huge bigger needles feel after a bunch of sock knitting?
I like it!
Great hat!! I could use a big needle project now too . . . . except that I'm not casting ANYTHING on until I finish up all my WIPs. Waaaaaa.
Ooh, the needle case with the geta print is adorable!!
What a cute hat! I'll keep it in mind if I need to crank out any more Christmas hats.
Lovely hattage! I don't mind grafting either. It's almost fun to see two pieces magically come together!
Cute! Love.
Very Nice! I am sooooo with you on this one. I had to take a break from a ISE 5 scarf last night and cast on for a hat for the bro on size 10 1/2s. I may have to switch to 11s I thinks its too small.
Love the Red garter stitch!
A what a perfect way to take a "break". So cute!
Z's Zeebee is the Bee's Knees!
(say that 10 times fast!)
The hat looks terrific! That one is already on my list!
You've been busy sewing and knitting up a storm!
Very cute hat!
