Fleecin' along

Well I spent part of the day yesterday and this morning, getting to know my serger again. Since the knitting bug bit about 2 yrs ago, it's been used maybe 2 or 3 times since then. I do not use it for my needlecases, impossible to do that. So here's some things you can do with fleece--polar, northern, whatever brand you have!

I tried to use some sock yarn (see the neon green in the background) but my serger was not liking it one bit, almost broke something too. So off went the sock yarn (yes it was fingering weight) I was trying to use the sock yarn as the edging of the cuddlewrap. (see blanket below for idea)

Attempting
All threaded and ready to go, but it didn't want to!

Serging in Progress
Change to regular serger thread and here we go!

This is a Cuddlewrap, when open kind of looks star-shaped. These are great for newborn/infant babies and work perfectly in a car seat. Well, so I am told on good authority, as they didn't have the pattern when mine were little. The pattern price is a bit steep, but you do get 2 sizes and I've made at least 10 or more over the years as gifts, you can't sell them due to copyright, which is fine, I don't need to stock more fabric in the house, hubby will leave LOL!

Cuddlewrap Open

Ahh, I'm warm now!
How to use it!
The only doll in the house modelling it's use. The top is a hat and the sides wrap around.
Cuddlewraps
3 done and ready to go to their owners. On the right are 3 little blankies. I use whatever leftovers there are and just serge the edges and voila, a tiny car blankie or whatever blankie.

I finished with a blankie for Penguin crazy DD. I finished it when she was sleeping and just put it on her, so she'd see it when she woke up.
Penguin Crazy
Well, done serging for the week, next week, pj pants for DD.

Now to work on needlecases and my knitting, what am I knitting now...stay tuned tomorrow and see!

Love how you surprised your daughter with the penguin blanket, that's a great way to present it.

Oooh, fleece! I love that blanket, and I just adore fleece. I bought some ready-made pj's on sale, but they are nowhere near as nice as your fleece.

Very cool! That sucks that the sock yarn didn't work. I wonder if something like Sockotta would have worked better since the cotton content would make it a bit stiffer.

i know you said hubby would leave if you brought more fabric into the house --- but can I commission a baby wrapper-thinger-ma-bob?

Pretty please? I'll send lovely yarn in return! :)

Putting sock yarn in a serger is a good idea. Too bad it didn't work, but it was brave of you to try.

Those look great and so comfy.

Strange that the yarn didn't work -- did you use regular thread in the needles and yarn in the loopers? I use really (really) light fingering yarn. Makes me want to break out the fleece -- I went nuts at the Malden Mills outlet and STILL have fleece leftover (I think it's closed now -- good thing).

Those are too fun! And what a great mom you are. :)

BTW, if she likes penguins, then she might like these flannel sheets from Target. They're really soft and cuddly - and cute to boot!

Love that blanket. I wonder if one could knit something like that. Hmmmm...

My machine hates fleece. Hates it. Sucks it in and spits it back at you. Sometimes. Other times it holds onto it with all its might. So after one sleepsack, I gave up on sewing with fleece.

Not that my machine has seen much daylight lately….

I'm diggin' the penguin thing, myself.
