You all know what the month of October means. If you don't that's ok :)
National Breast Cancer Awareness Month
It's been 2 years for me. If I hadn't been getting my yearly mammograms, mine wouldn't have been caught so early. I know they are uncomfortable, but hey, worth it in my opinion and experience.
The reason why I started getting early mammograms was due to my mother's breast cancer. 20 years ago today she passed away from it. Sometimes it seems like yesterday...I still miss her a lot! That's why every year in tribute to her I blog my yearly reminder to you.
ETA: I had my first mammogram at age 26 and at first only had them every couple of years. My mom was diagnosed in August 1990, she had just turned 46, and she passed barely 2 months after diagnosis. I've had patients in their 20's get breast cancer so the age issue for your first one I think depends on your own personal family history and discussing it with your Dr.
Despite the craziness around here lately, I still plan on joining the TTL 2010 Mystery Sock KAL. Ravelry group info here
I'll be using this Rose Quartz colorway, perfect for pink month I think. In fact I know it is, as it had an attempted sock knit from it.
ETA!!! Picnic Knits is doing a Boobie Blitz to raise funds for her 3-Day walk for the cure! There are many ways to help her and her team! Check it out!

Thanks for the reminder, I'm due.
That is a nice way to honor your mother. Maybe I will join in the mystery sock KAL too!
I heart you momma, and am very glad that mammograms exist. :D
/wanders off to contemplate how awesome you are and the pink yarn in the closet.
Those socks will certainly have special meaning for you! I'll see you in the KAL thread!
Yes, mammograms are important. My cancer was found in my baseline mammo. It's been 4 1/2 yrs for me :-)
Oooo...such a pretty pink, and I'm really not a pink person.
How old were you when you started getting squished? (If you don't mind giving up your age? Hee hee!) How old was your mom? Mine was right on the dot 50. So I'm not sure if I'm supposed to wait til I'm 40? Earlier?
Thanks for the reminder - I just made my 'annual' appointment (3 months late!). I guess now I'm 40, I should do the mammo too, right? Joy!
I've got mine scheduled! :-)
Such pretty yarn. Can't wait to see the progress pics.
Very pretty yarn - I can't wait to see the socks you come up with.
What a perfect colorway to mark a milestone and remind the rest of us. What pattern to use, that's the question;)
What a great reminder! And what luscious yarn!!
Thank you for the reminder. When our lives get busy, it's easy to put off taking care of ourselves until later. But it's so important!
Lovely yarn. I think that colorway is perfect for all sorts of stuff -- it's stunning, and I'm not even usually a pink person.
Thanks for the reminder. BC runs in our family - my grandmother had a mastectomy in her 70's. They refuse to do one on me - but this year I'm insisting.
My friend was recently diagnosed.....
I love your yarn for the KAL!
I have never had a mammogram but am fairly certain that will change in the next month or so. I'm scheduled to see my "girl doctor" later in the month and she'll send me in that direction.
Now if the NFL had just chosen a decent pink for their Breast Cancer Awarenes weekend. I hates it. Here's hoping it's just today and not the whole month! (I have no problem with what the NFL is doing. I just wish they hadn't picked such a gross shade of pink!)
**Cheers** to 2 years! I don't have to do mammograms yet (my mother's cancer was considered age-related and isn't genetically carried), but I checkcheckcheck. I am so sorry about your mom, but very glad YOU are survivor!
2 years, whoo hoo! Here's to many, many, many, many more!!
Thanks for posting this reminder! I'm so happy it's been 2 years and you are doing well!
